SlipKnot
Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa, formed in 1995. Slipknot consists of nine members, the current band members are Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson, and Corey Taylor. Each member of the band wears a unique mask. Slipknot formed in 1995 and underwent several line-up changes following the independent release of their first album, Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. in 1996. That album featured original lead vocalist, Anders Colsefini. Their self-titled, major label debut was released in 1999, featuring permanent new lead vocalist, Corey Taylor, and was followed by Iowa in 2001 and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) in 2004. On August 25, 2008, the band returned to release their fourth studio album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 charts.
All Hope Is Gone (2008)
All Hope Is Gone is the fourth studio album by American alternative metal band Slipknot. Released on August 20, 2008 by Roadrunner Records, the album was published in two versions: the standard album in a jewel compact disc case and a special edition packaged in a six-fold digipak containing three bonus tracks, a 40-page deluxe booklet, and a bonus DVD with a documentary of the album's conception. Preparation for the album began in 2007, and in February 2008 the band began working in the studio. All Hope Is Gone is the band's first studio album since 2004's Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), and their first album released by a major record label that was recorded in their home state of Iowa. Before the album's launch, Slipknot released a series of promotional images and audio samples from the album through various websites.
The album was generally well received by critics. It reached number one on nine record charts worldwide, including the Billboard 200, the first Slipknot album to do so. It is considered one of the band's most eclectic-sounding albums, incorporating elements from their previous three. All Hope Is Gone includes their "brutal" edge, reminiscent of tracks like "(sic)" from their debut album Slipknot; slow burning, "trippy" elements like that of "Skin Ticket" from Iowa; and acoustics and guitar solos, which were first introduced on Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses).[1] Lyrically, All Hope Is Gone centers on themes such as anger, disaffection, obsession, and the music industry. The album also features a more prominent focus on politics than their previous albums.
